It is almost impossible now, wherever you may be, not to realise that the Euro, the blight on the economies of Europe, must be coming to an end. This might, at first, apply only to a handful of nations, but the problem has become enormous; and could also include France, somewhere down the line.
The euro diehards are trying to convince all and sundry that tomorrow will be a better day. There have, however, always been those who new better, including the author. Conservative MEP Daniel Hannan, a man of considerable intellect, is another. Extracts from his new book, 'A Doomed Marriage', have been appearing in the press these past few days. His impressive credentials can be observed on his website, and also on Youtube. Apart from the well publicised rampant fraud, which abounds around Brussels, he makes a mockery of the fact that the commission actually thinks that national democracy gets in the way of progress for the European Union. What it actually means, is that it disrupts their dream of total control over most of the continent. They see themselves as a Kremlin-styled Brussels. Hannan, not unlike Nigel Farage of the United Kingdom Independence Party, has always seen what the outcome would be. He makes the point, that major charities are now in hock to Brussels; giving the Commission the opportunity to brag that they, along with the many nations who are in receipt of funds annually from Brussels, makes up a convincing majority in Europe. Well of course it does, it's handy to be on the take. This is how socialism survives, robbing Peter to pay Paul. Margaret Thatcher was always maligned by the dim left, including the BBC, for often being alienated on such matters. Well, the chickens are now coming home to roost!
We shall see within a very few days, whether or not another fudge is arranged, to excuse Greece from paying off its dues to the European Central Bank for a period. This couldn't possibly work of course, as they will only continue racking up debt if they remain in the eurozone.
