Brussels seems to have gone into a semi-comatose state as we approach the festive season, many of the thousands of overpaid minions could well have made their break for extended freedom. The tragi-comedy, however, is still ticking over, with much wool pulling over eyes.
The powers that be, having just returned from their euphoric trip to collect the Noble Peace Prize, that is if we are prepared to overlook riots on the streets of some European capital cities. On returning, their latest gambit appears to bring 200 of the largest banks together under the auspices of the European Central Bank, to somehow support the beleaguered Eurozone. One wonders why it took so long to turn to the people who control the money. Having said that, where on earth would any extra funds come from? Not from the western world, one suspects.
Another sideshow developing is the situation in Italy. Mario Monti, the usurper/placement, imposed upon the Italian people by the undemocratic Brussels regime, is considering standing down. This is really the big story, because he will know, that whatever the outcome of the Central Bank's intervention, the Euro is doomed, or at least will have some countries falling out of the zone.

THE AUTUMN STATEMENT.
This subject would normally be dealt with on the other channel: 'Government By PlayGroup' (http://polly-tickle.blogspot.com). The stupidity of the European Union, however, suggests that we can consider Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne's statement here.
As with most of the western world, not least the US and the EU, times are hard and getting harder. This obviously means that sensible folk need to cut their cloth accordingly. This problem is not going away in a hurry. Not only my children, but their children and so on, for generations, will be trying to reduce the debt bequeathed to them by the last Labour Government. This problem won't go away just because we are getting bored with austerity, it's probably only just beginning. Let us consider concerns that are ignored when politicians are discussing the future. Should the Republicans dig their heels in regarding Obama's left wing budget strategy, the States will be buying fewer imported goods. The EU is closing down at a high rate of knots; we then have to fund an extra influx of East Europeans in a year's time, which suggests that savings will be difficult to come by.
The retarded Labour Opposition is for ever harping on about a plan B. They think that we should carry on the Keynesian theory indefinitely; I'm sure that John Maynard would not have advocated such nonsense.
The real answer would be to pursue the John Cowperthwaite approach, by lowering taxes, preferably with a flat, across the board rate. Plus, if we plan annual benefit reductions for the workshy, we could have an 'effort' driven recovery. A serious look at ridiculously low interest rates, which triggered farcical house prices, must also be a consideration.
WHAT RIGHT HAVE WE TO PASS OUR DEBT DOWN TO FUTURE GENERATIONS.

DOES SAXO KNOW IT'S SALT.
Investment bank Saxo is starting to make noises regarding the economic mayhem which is the Eurozone. They could, of course, be suggesting the worst for their own ends. Personally, the author thinks that this could only be a possibility should they be betting on the demise of the currency. The fate of the Euro is not good and is almost bound to experience a partial collapse. Logically, investment banks cannot be setting out their 'stalls', until some positive signs show up regarding the future of the region; but, due to the intransigence of the Brussels elite, and 'die hards' such as Germany and France, there is nothing on the horizon. So the markets will ultimately put a stop to this stupidity of buying off debt with money that simply does not exist.

EVEN THE DEMONSTRATORS ARE SPONSORED BY US.
A Brussels insider has been forthcoming with information that won't surprise the European tax payer; at the recent summit regarding the proposed budget increase, where British Prime Minister David Cameron made a stand against the profligate Brussels Administration, and was backed by other nations. The European Commission simply ignores what is going on in its member states regarding much streamlining of domestic overheads. This is not important to the net recipients/beneficiaries within the Union, they naturally far outnumber the contributors. It is becoming apparent that more of the latter are beginning to understand that invisible money is not an option. Being responsible has to be the priority.
What we do need to be flabbergasted about, however, was that outside the proceedings, hundreds of flag waving protesters were demonstrating, with an anti-British bias, in favour of the increases. So who were these people? They were EU officials, given paid leave for the day, with free transport, giving the impression that the poor tax payer is in agreement with everything that is decided by the Commission.
MAY WE PLEASE REVIEW OUR MEMBERSHIP OF THIS BENT OUTFIT?

FRENCH STICK OR BUST.
It is noted that the 'Economist' magazine has had the temerity, as these postings have suggested on occasions, to imply that the French economy is in a precarious position. Certainly, if the Mediterranean member nations, embroiled in the fracas that is the Euro zone, have to return to their former currencies; France will find the debt it has guaranteed during this period of 'save the Euro at all costs' passes its 'sell by' date, and that the spotlight will fall onto the performance of the French economy. Followers of such travails will be aware, that after the advent of new President, Francois Hollande, his socialist, high tax regime will totally demolish a very weak situation.
For far too long, France has cosied up to Germany, hoping that this gives the impression that they have a kind of parity. Well, forget it! Their contributions have been pathetic, simultaneously expecting high returns, particularly for their farm subsidies, via the Common Agricultural Policy. They are now appearing, however, to baulk at the laughable budget increases demanded by the Brussels Commission.

SO WHAT DOES THE EU ACTUALLY DO?
As more crowds gather in the capitals of the Southern European countries, demonstrating and striking. How long will it be before these congregations turn to dark clouds of violence, with very serious consequences? Surely the European Union came about with a view to avoid such strife. However, since undemocratic socialism took over the reins of this totally chaotic shambles of an organisation, pompous upstarts in the EU Government dream up more ways of throwing OPM (other people's money) about. They operate with complete disregard for the state of the world's economy. Probably guessing that it is the right time for their farcical revolution. Greece will fall out of the Euro currency zone, probably followed by others. The force is far too great to be resisted.
In a clear cut world, the major players in the Union will have to dissolve what passes for the European Union's Government, made up of 99% 'yes folk'. They naturally represent the majority of states who are 'on the take'. One would hope, that since we are well into the 21st. century, most nations should be self- sufficient.
WHEN WILL WE LEARN THAT SOCIALISM FAILS ALL BEFORE IT?

THE UNITED STATES VOTES FOR EVEN GREATER DEBT.
One of the tragedies of early 21st century politics is the sight of the Americans seeking a mythical refuge in the type of illusory attitudes being practised within the European Union. Please understand, it won't work. Borrowing ones way out of economic troubles is self-inflicting more crises, and consider, to whom will you owe this enormous debt. We can't repeat this often enough, the States already have to pay to China, in interest alone, enough to cover the cost of the Chinese military, and by re-electing Barack Obama, that figure will continue to grow. Britain was brought to its knees by the economic neophyte, Gordon Brown, who spent much of his time throwing OPM (other peoples money) at almost everything that supposedly made him look good. He was simultaneously buying votes. The farce here is, the fact that the good people of the USA have returned a President who makes Brown's shortcomings pale into insignificance.
Like all socialism, the politicians avoid the dangerous battleground of that posed by the economic plight. They promise eye catching nonsense that appeals to the young, who have never had the responsibility of making ends meet. Another good ploy is to introduce abortion into the arena, as if this is a lifestyle choice, along with the bilge about being part of the woman's body alone. The female of the species is privileged to carry children, nature designed it that way, but it brings responsibility. There are, no doubt, occasions when medical grounds call for termination; it is, however, ending the life of a living being. Such things must be repugnant to those who consider, quite rightly, the economy is what needs correcting. Leaving mountains of deferred taxes for future generations is an absolute disgrace. Strangely enough, many of the electorate that voted for this will also have to pick up the tab. Remembering who your creditor is should also have a sobering effect. Hopefully, the Republican majority within government will save the day.
SOCIALISM HAS ALWAYS LACKED LOGIC.

BE WARY OF IRRESISTIBLE FORCES.
When nature decides to be uncompromising with its natural phenomena, such as the recent storm shattering the east coast of the USA, caused by hurricane Sandy colliding with cold weather systems arriving from the far north, something that we have now witnessed with devastating effect; immediately voices are heard suggesting some kind of defences. This would leave the harbours the only escape from these enormous surges from the Atlantic. It would appear, that little or no thought is given to the massive energy that is built up within such storms. We can blame climate change, but that has been changing from day one. If we suggest that the problem is man-made; what are we to do about that?
Let us consider here, a positive 'man-made' shambles, the Euro, something that could have been avoided, which has now turned into an unstoppable disaster. This was avoidable, but unfortunately, the bone headed imbeciles who run the European Union would not heed the warning signs. For those unclear about the root cause of what will turn out to be the downfall of the union as we know it, and what the blinkered clowns envisaged, the analogy we can draw here is, that like the natural storm from the Atlantic, the Euro crisis is also out of hand. This, of course, had no need to turn out as it has done, had the initiators implemented some rigorous planning and discipline. Unfortunately, it was created to suck the dim thinkers across the continent into an airy-fairy amalgam, giving these perpetrators a large body of nations on 'the take', who always say yes to any proposal. Let's face it, it pays. At least it has until now.

FREEDOM OF THE PRESS, OR LACK OF IT.
A Greek magazine editor/journalist, Kostas Vaxevanis, is facing trial for naming over 2000 wealthy countrymen for tax evasion, and could face a prison sentence for breaching privacy laws. Evidently, he passed the list to the Greek Parliament, who appear to have had no intention of acting upon this information, which for some was too close to home. Therefore, Mr. Vaxevanis decided to make public the list. So what is wrong with this act? Well, what we need to consider is, when is a Democracy not a Democracy? His country is suffering a financial crisis, admittedly much to do with their own haphazard approach to their general tax regime, and, of course, the stupidity of them being allowed to join the 'Eurozone'.
Greece is not alone regarding the imposition of privacy laws, which invariably shelters the 'great and bad'. France protects such characters; recently we have seen the downfall of Strauss Kahn. Had France not had these protective laws, his activities would have surfaced a long time ago. The laws mainly protect the wrong- doer.
Here in the UK, following the enquiry into phone hacking by Lord Justice Leveson, we could be following suit; creating our version of protection from the prying press. Evidently, the Labour Party would love this kind of cover, having requested that whatever the Judge's findings, they should be implemented.
THIS WOULD BE A SHOT BETWEEN THE EYES FOR DEMOCRACY.

IS CAMERON 'FLYING A KITE' BY PROXY?
Prime Minister Cameron appears to be allowing his close aides to make noises on what Britain will do regarding our relationship with the European Union. Education Secretary, Michael Gove has let off the first major salvo by any government minister, suggesting that ultimately we could depart from the ever cloying effect of the meddlesome, unelected imbeciles that run the European Commission.
This is obviously early days, and Cameron will allow himself 'wriggle room'. Nevertheless, he has now exposed himself, via Gove, who I feel sure is the genuine article, to anything other than a referendum on our continued participation in the EU, which is now a total farce. The Backbenchers will now recognise that they have pressured the Cabinet into such a move.
Brussels has responded in the way that all socialist regimes react, they are threatening swingeing costs for such a move.
This has come about, due to the ground being made up by MEP Nigel Farage and his UKIP Party; currently the most talented politician anywhere on earth. He never misses a trick, and ought really to be plying his trade at Westminster. Not often do we witness such a breath of fresh air. Anybody needing proof, go to YouTube.

PEACE IN OUR TIME II.
With both Athens and Madrid being brought to a standstill, and much blood letting by crowds of the Greek and Spanish electorate, the Nobel Committee in Norway have chosen the very instigators of this mayhem, the European Union, to be recipients of their prestigious 'peace prize'. We can see Maoist, Jose` Manuel Barroso, leader of the EU Commission, strutting his stuff, not unlike Hitler during the nineteen thirties.
Whatever triggered the Nobel committee to present this honour to the unelected shower in Brussels is beyond comprehension. Surely it can't possibly be for the stated reasons of peace and stability, after all that was due to NATO. In fact, what is happening currently, is edging Europe to more conflict, with the iron fist of the Brussels' dictatorship forever trying to 'buck the market'. It would be worthwhile pointing out here, that Norway is one of the few European countries not controlled by the seat of European hypocrisy.
There is always a lighter side to this kind of pantomime activity, however, as it is grist to the wheel of the EU critic Nigel Farage; usually available on YouTube.

HOW TO LANCE AN ARMSTRONG.
Much credit must go to the American body, United States Anti-Doping Authority (USADA), that pursued Lance Armstrong to the bitter end, regarding his illegal doping routine. To destroy a national hero, multi-winner of the Tour-de-France, has to go down as an exemplary example of decency over national pride. Unfortunately, it doesn't say a lot for the drug tests during this gruelling cycle race. There are probably many more aspects of this practise by other competitors, and teams, as this prestigious prize has mega financial rewards.
This column is in no way singling out the particular sport of cycling. Hopefully, all major international sports are vigilantly checked. On the other hand, Britain's most popular sport, football/soccer, can be devious in secreting cases of professionals players, when sidelined, for the very reason of having been found to have drugs in their system. Their absence is normally covered up by the suggestion of a long healing injury as an excuse. Such is the timid control overseen by the body responsible for these particular checks. The very antithesis of the controls in the USA.
WELL DONE TO ALL CONCERNED.

NO POLITICAL INTERFERENCE.
Golf's Ryder Cup, a team competition played between the cream of the USA and Europe. One would have to be very anti-sport not to appreciate the final day, starting with the Europeans trailing by 4 points, culminating in one of those unlikely reversals of fortune. The author is not using this item to gloat, but to point out how well an organisation can work without political involvement; all the European countries accepting that the captain selects who he thinks are the best golfers for the task. The captain, on this occasion, was Spaniard, Jose Maria Olazabal, and on that final day, the team turned it on, not only for Jose, but his mentor, the late 'Seve' Ballesteros.
The simple point here, that the politicians in Brussels should heed, is that this is a fine example of international co-operation, all pulling in one direction. Should this be the attitude pursued for the future of Europe's good? It most certainly presented itself as a showcase to such a conclusion.
It would be remiss of me not to acknowledge the good sportsmanship exercised by many of the Americans, particularly, Phil Mickelson, who was appluading some of his opponent's shots, including Justin Rose's putt on the seventeenth green; a shot that signalled the end for Mickelson.
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL.

THEY ARE STILL AT IT.
The streets of both Athens and Madrid continue to host violent demonstrations regarding both the Greek and Spanish economies. How much can we borrow? We can't afford to cut any further and so on. Well the hard truth is, that to stay within the Euro zone, you have no option. The only option is to exit this straight jacket, sooner rather than later, returning to the independence; giving yourselves the opportunity to control your own destiny, by reverting to your respective currencies, the drachma and the peseta. This naturally would cause other nations to follow: Ireland, Portugal, Italy, and ultimately France; 'sacre bleu'. The frightening aspect of the whole scenario is the recommendation that the way out is to borrow even more on top of the existing debt, which, of course, is Keynesian baloney.
The bloodshed that is frequently shown on news broadcasts on a weekly basis, is becoming quite horrendous. Unfortunately, it would appear that the Brussels Commission thinks that this process is most acceptable. How on earth can these scenes be alright within a union that considers itself democratic. As UKIP MEP Nigel Farage suggests, 'this is the price that these unelected officials are prepared to pay, to get their way'; nothing must prevent the juggernaut that is the European project.
THE COLLAPSE WON'T BE PRETTY.

FIFTY SHADES OF THE CLINTONS.
Although the author would not find the time to watch any TV programme involving Bill and Hillary Clinton, the BBC thinks that a three part series, which is referred to as being an absorbing insight, is important. Everything that the pair has achieved, gives the impression of being a political soap opera. Together, neither have ever performed a proper job, both having been political animals since their student days. This is a much loved approach by left of centre political 'con artists'.
We are aware of the former President, and his priapic rise to fame, during his formative years in Arkansas. During his period at the 'White House', he just continued in the same vein. He allowed the 'sub prime' mortgage situation to get totally out of hand, something with which the world is still trying to come to terms. The previous head of the Federal Reserve Bank, Alan Greenspan, created much illusion, no doubt encouraged by Clinton, in allowing the US economy to steam out of control. All this can make the boss look good, albeit for a limited period. The UK suffered the same from the illogical Gordon Brown, who, along with Tony Blair, had worshipped at the court of the Clintons. An abiding moment took place recently at a Democratic convention, the announcing of the fact that Barack Obama would run for a second term. Clinton was almost kissing Obama's shoes; far removed from the scene four years ago, when Clinton was 'bad mouthing' him, for opposing wife Hillary.
How simple and easily led people are; it is the same for much of the western world, the majority seem to be looking for something for nothing.
UNFORTUNATELY, IT DOESN'T EXIST.

THE RASH THAT IS SOCIALISM.
As the forecast for the French economy suggests a rapid deterioration following the recent Presidential Election; so New Socialist incumbent, Francois Hollande, like all left wingers, promises to soak the rich, along with a reduction to 60 years for retirement age. We have pointed out previously, that this can't possibly go down well with the Germans, whose pension age has gone the other way, giving a difference of seven years.
Well let us see what the next left winger, Barack Obama, due to go to the polls, promises, other than his considerable overspending and borrowing, which is putting the USA at a troublesome disadvantage on the 'world stage'. He is certainly pursuing a policy of hustling troops out of Afghanistan. I can understand the reason for bringing the service personnel home; nevertheless, they are being treated as political pawns. Much has been written in the press regarding Mitt Romney's comments, identifying the section of society that won't vote for his policies, wishing to stick with Obama's 'big giveaway society'. What's wrong with pointing out the truth.
Some readers may well be aware of the 'on line' piece: Bill Cosby, 'I'm 83 and I'm tired'. It may or may not be the work of Bill Cosby, but whoever is responsible, is right on the money.
TO YOU AMERICANS, AVOID A WELFARE STATE, THE COST IS ENORMOUS.

THE ONE-SIDED BBC NEWS.
Apropos our last posting, 'BARROSO AND A FORCED MARRIAGE.' I was made aware of President Barroso's plans for greater federal integration on the British Broadcasting Corporation News; giving the impression that he, Barroso, was addressing a compliant audience in the Brussels Assembly. In viewing the proceedings, I wondered what the likes of Nigel Farage, United Kingdom Independence Party member, thought of the comments, because the BBC weren't going to tell us. Fortunately, Youtube came to the rescue. It turns out that Farage was very much part of the debate, giving Barroso the 'little boy treatment' in his superb debating style. Farage doesn't suffer fools gladly, particularly the communist variety.
How is it, therefore, that a television broadcasting channel, funded by monies extorted from the public, a kind of protection racket, only gives one side of the point of the debate?
WE WOULD EXPECT BETTER FROM A TOYTOWN NEWS AGENCY.

BARROSO AND A FORCED MARRIAGE.
We can't be surprised when a communist, Jose Manuel Barroso, President of the European Union, wants an acceleration towards federalisation of the member states, in an endeavour to avoid the total collapse of the European project. He insists that this will bring about greater democracy providing that we do as he says.
Democracy, as we are aware, is way down the list of priorities of the unelected 'high and mighty' that dominate the corridors of Brussels. The author is sure that democracy should be to ask the electorate what their feelings are on such matters. It might also be reasonable to point out, that forced/arranged marriages are against the law in civilised countries. The superior attitude that dominates the European Commission prevents such an imposition to get in the way of their perceived progress.
The disturbing aspect of these political manoeuvres is that they all cost money, tax payers money, some of course, more than others. The big flaw in this European folly is, and has always been the case, that most of the participating nations receive money, whereas Great Britain and a few others are obliged to contribute annual funds. Such accounting systems are always at the centre of Socialism; robbing Peter to pay Paul, naturally there are many more Pauls than Peters. The Pauls, the ones on the 'take', based upon the one-man one vote system, will always outnumber the responsible providers; therefore the whole 'house of cards' disintegrates.
THERE APPEARS TO BE NO END IN SIGHT FROM THIS SELF IMPOSED MISERY.

NOTHING CHANGES.
Following a cruise break, where we were kept up to date with the world news, via satellite TV. The same shenanigans were carrying on regarding the saving of the 'Euro'. How many attempts do these clowns require before they get the message that the currency is 'dead in the water'? Although Germany, a major loser in its demise, can't show much enthusiasm for printing more false money; after all, it has form in this area, and it isn't smart to keep repeating the same mistake to find a different answer. Einstein made the point quite clearly.
How often does the voting public of Europe consider, that most of the people making major decisions on their behalf have never had their names on a ballot slip. Why do we tolerate a 'Kremlin type' regime?
REST ASSURED, THE PROBLEM CANNOT BE SOLVED.

GREEK MYTHOLOGY.
Greek Prime Minister, Antonis Samaras (Brussels placement), is currently playing musical chairs, initially in Berlin to plead with Angela Merkel, and then onto Paris. The intention is to extend the period of compliance to the European Union's requirements before Greece can get additional financial assistance. Presumably a compromise will be found, giving the impression that they will be able to pay off these loans. Some hope!
The absurd aspect of all this nonsense is that Samaras then goes to Paris to see President Francois Hollande. France's financial situation, although not as dire as their Greek colleagues, is not far behind the troublesome economies of both Spain and Italy. We could enquire what is going on, but it is, as ever, Brussels 'bodging up' that is causing economic melt down in the west, with a knock-on effect around the world. It is understood that Barack Obama is fearful of Greece opting out of the euro, with all the implications that would ensue, something that could go against him in the forthcoming Presidential Election.
THERE'S NO RESPONSIBILITY HERE THEN.

IS THIS THE DEATH RATTLE I HEAR?
It is almost impossible now, wherever you may be, not to realise that the Euro, the blight on the economies of Europe, must be coming to an end. This might, at first, apply only to a handful of nations, but the problem has become enormous; and could also include France, somewhere down the line.
The euro diehards are trying to convince all and sundry that tomorrow will be a better day. There have, however, always been those who new better, including the author. Conservative MEP Daniel Hannan, a man of considerable intellect, is another. Extracts from his new book, 'A Doomed Marriage', have been appearing in the press these past few days. His impressive credentials can be observed on his website, and also on Youtube. Apart from the well publicised rampant fraud, which abounds around Brussels, he makes a mockery of the fact that the commission actually thinks that national democracy gets in the way of progress for the European Union. What it actually means, is that it disrupts their dream of total control over most of the continent. They see themselves as a Kremlin-styled Brussels. Hannan, not unlike Nigel Farage of the United Kingdom Independence Party, has always seen what the outcome would be. He makes the point, that major charities are now in hock to Brussels; giving the Commission the opportunity to brag that they, along with the many nations who are in receipt of funds annually from Brussels, makes up a convincing majority in Europe. Well of course it does, it's handy to be on the take. This is how socialism survives, robbing Peter to pay Paul. Margaret Thatcher was always maligned by the dim left, including the BBC, for often being alienated on such matters. Well, the chickens are now coming home to roost!
We shall see within a very few days, whether or not another fudge is arranged, to excuse Greece from paying off its dues to the European Central Bank for a period. This couldn't possibly work of course, as they will only continue racking up debt if they remain in the eurozone.

WHAT OPEN COMPETITION?
Once upon a time, a group of European nations decided to pool resources, and move towards a federation, hoping to eventually operate under one government and one flag. We were told this would be a major asset for nations involved, in that it would be made easier for them to compete for all forms of business. Naturally, things never turn out to be that straight forward. A fine example of what we could call national nepotism has taken place recently in the European heartland of Germany.
Berlin is concentrating its airports into one main hub, Schonefeld; this, by the way, was the former USSR airbase until the fall of the 'wall'. After the extensive updating, it will be known as Berlin Brandenburg International. Tempelhof has already gone, and Tegel will disappear when the much improved BBI is completed; whenever that might be.
Originally, travellers would have expected to be flying into the improved facility by June this year. There was a glitch however. The original contract was given to the German construction outfit, Hoch Tief-Bau. Unfortunately, they were found to have been involved in some under-hand business, so the process started all over again, and low and behold, the same outfit was awarded the business once more, in the face of pan European competition. The intended completion of the project is now August 2013. This setback has incurred further problems with all the franchisees, whose contracts were to have commenced by summer this year, creating a series of expensive court cases for the authorities.
The project has triggered the usual noise concerns, which one would anticipate. Plus a low level war amongst vying taxi businesses.
STRANGE HOW THE NAVEL GAZING BBC NEVER REPORTS SUCH MAYHEM.

LILI MARLENE (Leip/Schultze)
"Underneath the lamp light" Angela Merkel is panicking. A recent poll of the German electorate seems to be swinging to the view that they would be better off out of the Euro, returning to their beloved Mark. This will naturally be a momentous step for a nation that was hidebound on acquiring a consensus across Europe, to act as one nation. 'Dream on.'
The longer this dithering continues, the more expensive the bill will become; either way, it won't be cheap. How can Germany pick up the tab for the list of nations in serious economic decline, due to the moronic pursuit of this flawed project? The German dream was to be the powerhouse nation, they do work much harder than the rest. Unfortunately, they have this blinkered approach, ignoring the danger signs; whereas the Southern European economies have a much different mentality, lacking the discipline of the North, particularly the Germans. Greece, for example, should not have been able to be accepted into the Euro zone; in which case, how did it come about? Well! Germany wanted as many nations as possible to be able to afford their automobiles, this being much more likely within the sphere of a common currency. Now, as the likelihood of, at best, Greece aborting, at worst, the total collapse of the currency; this would leave the Germans with the enormous problem of a very strong Mark, against much weaker currencies. Either way, Germany takes a financial pasting.
This type of situation arises when belligerent politicians get out of their depth, thinking only of the greater glory, rather than the logic.
THIS WILL GET NASTY.

WELL DONE BRADLEY WIGGINS!
This is not a boast about a Brit. winning the Tour de France, but this, an achievment for any cyclist, particularly someone residing on these shores. For some little time, the United Kingdom has been upping its game in the the field of the two wheeled sport. As an observer, I recall the advent of a very special machine, I'm sure, constructed from carbon fibre, in the capable hands of Chris Boardman. Since that time, in the early nineties, we appear to have made considerable strides in all aspects of the sport. The 2012 Olympics are about to commence, and the UK will be defending a number of Gold Medals in cycling events. Who knows, we could retain some.
On the downside, some of our citizens consider that we should now give these two wheeled travellers much more space on our roadways. Unfortunately, that won't deliver the butter for the bread. It may be a weakness with many nations, instant euphoria. We even get an increase in potential tennis players during the Wimbledon fortnight.
Nevertheless, Bradley Wiggins has done us proud, along with his team mates; it has to be a team effort. Not forgetting the moment when Wiggins slowed the field down, following 'the tacks on the road incident'. He did this, so as not to steal an advantage over those unfortunate competitors who suffered punctures.
AGAIN, WELL DONE BRADLEY WIGGINS!

WHICH NATION WILL WIN THE MONEY THROWING EVENT?
As the summer recession overtakes parliamentarians, hopefully we shall see less, or no borrowed funds being used to prop up the regimes within Europe which have been spending non existent money for years, with gay abandon. This largesse has been mainly occurring under socialist led administrations, the biggest of which being the EU Kremlin in Brussels. The European Parliament just loves telling the rest of its member nations what the financial requirements are for the forthcoming year, which naturally is always an increase, never thinking of cutting back to suit economic conditions.
We should hope, therefore, that the holiday season will give the taxpayer some respite. Don't bank on it. The forthcoming Olympics, London 2012, will cost Britain a lot of money. So why not have an event on money hurling. This wouldn't necessarily be a physical exercise, but more of a brains trust. All we need is a panel of reliable economists assessing the stupidity of governments around the world over the last four years. Britain would obviously expect to be on the podium, possibly with a gold medal. We should be good at it, having gone through 13 years of Labour Governments; training schedules were rocked slightly following the May 2010 General Election. We can now report that we are back on track, throwing bad (borrowed money) into 'black holes', along with printing plenty. It would come under the heading of reality; people, however, only show interest in so-called reality when it's about celebrity.
NOT WHEN IT IS POSITIVELY REAL.

FROGS LEGS IN PICKLE.
Barely has President Hollande's suit dried out, following his inauguration, where he promised to lower the retirement age to 60, and to squeeze the wealthy, the money generating wing of a successful society; when right on cue, his financial advisers have made it clear that billions of euros have to be cut from the budget, with immediate effect.
Didier Migaud, head of the country's Cour des Comptes audit body, is insisting that action must not be delayed, due to the excessive borrowing by the Government.
I'm sure the Germans are watching these events with considerable interest.
NEVER TRUST AN ECONOMIC NEOPHYTE WITH YOUR CASH.

ENGLAND EXITS EUROS.
We are not talking currency here, but football. Just a reminder of the football (soccer) tournament taking place in Poland/Ukraine. England managed to qualify from the initial group stage (four mini leagues of four teams each), by not losing a single game; they didn't actually lose in the the quarter final; after extra time, the score was still goalless; nevertheless, they devised a system during the 'penalty shoot-out' whereby they failed to progress. Italy, undoubtedly, deserved to go through, due their superiority during the actual game. England as usual failed to grasp the nettle, having made the wrong substitutions during the game. Ashley Young, who missed his penalty, should have been replaced long before the game was drawing to its close. The other culprit, from the spot, was another Ashley i.e Cole. He is the former husband of Cheryl. They share a similar intellect. He strolled up to take his kick, sporting his 'last of the Mohican's hair do', and shot something that would have embarrassed Pocahontas. This so-called full back was playing his ninety eighth international, heaven only knows how he managed one. The retarded BBC sports team, which includes endless so-called pundits, included a spot before the game feting this limited footballer, suggesting that he could earn his 100th international cap (appearance) in the final. What a joke!
As most sporting people would know, football was devised/created in our small country, England. Not that one would recognise the fact. We have a type of defensive approach to the game, hoping to score on the counter, without the players to execute this tactic. Some of the players in the team take home more than £200,000 per week. Our domestic Premier League is about to become even more wealthy, which suggests that income will increase somewhat. All this, by the way, as the western world's economies sink irrevocably into it's own west.
England's new manager/coach Roy Hodgson was only appointed a few weeks prior to the competition, and it was noticeable that he soon installed a good camaraderie. Now, however, is the time for the cull. Most, if not all, of the older regime must be dispensed with. Greater mobility in defence is called for, plus a play maker with much more than endeavour.
THE BALL IS FIRMLY IN YOUR COURT, ROY.

EARNING ONE'S CORN.
In one of the weekend papers was a photograph of Nigel Farage, leader of the United Kingdom Independence Party, and inset, a picture of Ed 'Thoroughly Modern' Miliband, leader of Her Majesty's Opposition. The feature was so striking, Farage looking statesman like, 'Thoroughly Modern' looking his gormless self, typical of someone who only opposes, without any clue how to proceed himself in order to generate any form of authority. The article, however, was of much more importance, as we shall see.
It is very rare in any European or domestic situation for a politician to represent anyone but him/herself. Anything that betters their own little lot is foremost. Nigel Farage bucks that trend: This last week saw him lambaste the European Parliament in devastating fashion. The subject being the latest futile injection of 100 billion euros into Spanish banks. He packed into his short allotted time so many devastating truths. The most profound being, that part of that injection, 20%, would be underwritten by Italy. He then mentioned that Spain was to expect a preferential interest rate of 3%, giving Italy the problem of raising their contribution, by having to borrow at 7%. This is classic EU fudging. Interestingly, this kind of important story is outside the pathetic BBC's remit.
The whole of Farage's speech is available (video), on his website and no doubt on Youtube. It's a classic.
SOCIALISTS, LOOK AWAY NOW.

THE EURO AND THE EUROS.
Europe is currently preoccupied by two activities; one being the propping up of a failing currency, the euro; the second is the pathetic so-called 'football fest', Euro 2012. The tournament takes place every four years, reminding us that the game continues to deteriorate at about the same rate as that of the participants income increases. Both the currency and the game have vast armies of people supporting their particular cause; both of which are flawed.
There is little point in expounding further on the ever weakening currency, if we don't know by now, we'll never understand the problems. On the other hand, the game of football is awash with petty and cynical fouling; the perpetrator then displays the boorish "What! me ref. (referee)" look. All this nonsense, for which folk appear to pay large sums of money to be there, is presumably, a part of the training schedule. Unfortunately, the so called pundits, TV analysts and newspaper reporters, are probably too scared to discuss a true reflection of the happenings, for fear of being ostracised by the various camps.
What strikes the author, is that these, in most cases, pathetic performers, 'trouser' in excess of 100,000 euros a week, some much more. If we take the case of the Spanish, Italian and Portuguese contingent who are 'strutting their stuff' while their home nations' economies are going bankrupt. This brings us back to the thousands of travelling supporters. Who are these people? One banner being touted around by the Irish supporters points out to Angela Merkel, 'that they are not working'. You can say that again!
ONE EURO IS AS BAD AS THE OTHER.

EURO-RYTHMICS ARE WAY OFF THE BEAT.
One would have anticipated that for the common currency to be a success, all participants should be throbbing to one beat, singing from the same hymn sheet. This, however, doesn't seem to be the case, as is so obvious to astute witnesses. This mega problem is bound to end in catastrophe, not only for the Eurozone nations, but also for all the trading nations of the world.
It must be difficult for German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, whose facade gives the impression that she is in control of the problem. Unfortunately, nobody can arrest this downward spiral, simply because what is good for the goose is of no use to the gander. The German Parliament will not promise backing for all the imminent debt, simultaneously trying desperately to retain this self-made leviathan, which cannot survive without introducing one central fiscal control mechanism, which naturally can only be German.
Barack Obama, panicking at the thought of the forthcoming Presidential Election, changes his mind, just as a chameleon changes colour. Acknowledging on occasions, that we, the Brits, have got it right, by making savings; unfortunately, they are nowhere near enough. Disastrously, he is now thinking of borrowing his way out of trouble. From where do these people get their economic advice? Since the US is close to paying China annually, in interest alone, enough to cover the Chinese military. As with the other so called leaders, he is floundering like an economic neophyte. A fine example being the French, who are about to reduce their retirement age. France, as with most European nations, is deeply in debt. The notion is sold by suggesting that the scheme is costed/funded. How on earth can a nation, which has been borrowing heavily for around four decades, with a diminishing credit rating, possibly substantiate such a ridiculous notion? This decision alone should trigger the British exit from the European Union, post haste; and heaven only knows how the Germans will react behind closed doors.
THE CHINESE HAVE THE ANSWER: WE NEED TO WORK HARDER AND FOR LONGER.

HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN AND THE EURO.
We have just returned from visiting family in Copenhagen, Denmark. Although a small nation of some 5 million people, they have a stoical view of life; happy with high taxes, but as with Britain, retainers of their own currency, the Danish Kroner. It is difficult to assess whether or not they have serious personal debt problems, as is the case in Britain. Credit card facilities are available at most cash points; this doesn't suggest that everyone abuses the opportunity to pay later anymore than every Brit' takes advantage of all the credit possibilities. What did arise in conversation, is the effect that the Eurozone crisis could have on all nations in the European Union. I quickly pointed out that the repercussions will stretch far beyond Europe, as the whole of the western world has been relying on credit for far too long, both on a personal and national level.
How do we remove ourselves from this economic debacle? Unfortunately, only by going without the things that the 'credit abusers' have taken for granted. The main instigators of the situation have been national governments. In Britain, for example, the previous Labour Government spent much of its time pretending that we were well off, allowing the banks to lend money that did not exist. There is no suggestion here that the same occurred in Denmark, which, for a socialist country, the people display a small 'c' conservatism. One thing is for sure, all the EU nations will feel the draught when the bubble finally bursts, we can't sweep the problem under the carpet indefinitely.
Let me close with a footnote: Jazz is alive and surviving well in many of the City's drinking establishments.

WHAT UNION?
We could, in addition, ask the question, What G8? It is difficult to make any judgement on a group of
so-called world leaders, spending their weekend papering over the cracks.
The early response from initial talks was a comment from President Obama, along the lines of growth coupled with constraint. Finally, it was decided on growth alone, whatever that means. Should it mean even more borrowing? Chancellor Merkel could never agree to that, and quite rightly so. The French, on the other hand, have made the decision, socialist style; live eat and be merry, and let the devil take the hindmost.
Observers of the shambles that is Europe, and the Eurozone in particular, will understand that the Union cannot survive with differing philosophies. The Germans, whose forebears learned the lessons of financial melt-down between the two world wars, and the rules never change. Living beyond one's means is futile. Other nations, nevertheless, refuse to be bound by such strict rules. France, in particular, whilst facing major problems in it's banking system, has a new socialist president advocating a reduction in the retirement age, plus a large increase in the state sector jobs, all on borrowed money. Even Holland is weakening, with a view to borrowing more; hoping for a miracle down the line.
Sweden on the other hand, under the guiding hand of Anders Borg, their right of centre Finance Minister, is making inroads into the nation's welfare dependency. The Finns are also showing some signs of more responsibility. We are due to visit family in Denmark shortly, where I'll be taking another look at their extremely expensive system of socialism.

so-called world leaders, spending their weekend papering over the cracks.

TWIST OR BUST.
As Greece lurches into its eleventh hour as a member of the Eurozone, something that has been inevitable since day one of the currency's short career, how will this leave the big players, the ones that dreamt up and created this mayhem? Political dreamers are, naturally, always going to make a mess of the immediate future. They cannot see the economic reaction to a political fantasy as the picture of a Europe, dictated over by a few, often unelected, bureaucrats. Blinded by the idiotic belief, that the whole of Europe could be bound together, and controlled by a Brussel's elite. This was never a starter.
So what can level headed people learn from this fracas? The pro single currency supporters should hang their heads in shame; the continent cannot continue to operate with this 'gung-ho' attitude, pretending all in the garden is well. It's a disaster. The future won't be easy either way. Trying to stave off a Eurozone collapse is ridiculously expensive, and the alternative could be even worse, but unavoidable. Having paid your money (loans), you takes your pick.
The important lesson here, is:
NEVER LET LITTLE GIRLS AND BOYS MAKE UNDEMOCRATIC DECISIONS.

HAS FRANCE GONE BUST YET?
Many Europeans are spending their time gazing at the financial situation in Greece; the big game however, is France. A nation with a diminished credit rating, which will come under even more pressure, as President Hollande increases the borrowing, to finance expanding productivity. Anyway, that's the theory. Well has he got some nasty shocks due to him. First he has to convince the Germans of his stupidity; who, in turn will recommend that he reads Adam Fergusson's 'When Money Dies'; a history of the hyper-inflation during the nightmare years of the Weimar Republic, following the period after the First World War. Angela Merkel won't want to be associated with that kind of nonesense.
We are not the first people to suggest that the BBC will be wholeheartedly behind the new French President, whose knowledge of economics is probably on a par with those well known Marxists, Britain's two Eds, Miliband and Balls, not forgetting next door's cat. The term, according to the Beeb, is growth. The correct description is, of course, increasing the debt. Something, unfortunately, the BBC doesn't understand, as it relies on money extorted from the public.
DETOUR AHEAD PERHAPS.

COMING SOON, MELTDOWN MAYHEM.
As expected, Europe got the election results anticipated. Greece's was an obvious outcome, with much of the electorate subject to horrendous reductions in their living standards, not all of them necessarily having taken advantage of the previous 'out of control' system. As ever, the responsible ones have to pick up the tab.
France on the other hand, has voted to follow the Greek pattern, spending money that does not exist. Stupid of course, but typical of socialist politicians, who will promise anything to attract votes. Any economy, be it domestic or national can only survive by keeping its debt to the minimum. France has operated in a credit bubble since the mid-seventies. The theory creating one stimulus after another doesn't work, if it did it would now be a very wealthy nation.
The Euro will now come under the severest pressure, which will be much to the chagrin of Angela Merkel. Ultimately, this will see a change in the membership of the Euro Club, which could collapse completely. Whatever the outcome, it needs to be resolved swiftly. It is this very type of problem that brings about dissension between nation states which, in this case, was self inflicted. The single currency was bound to fail. It was brought about to force nations to become as one politically. The fact that it couldn't work financially was considered irrelevant.
WHEN IT HAPPENS, THE FALL-OUT WON'T BE PRETTY.

POSSIBLY A WEEK OF IGNOMINY FOR EUROPE.
During the last week, Brussels has got excited about it's space flight to one of Saturn's moons. This little exercise will cost an admitted 1 billion Euros. Simultaneously, the Berlin Group, a bunch of federalists who wish to dictate a common tax regime throughout the European Union, with a view to introducing a transition tax on all banking deals. This would go to funding losses of under performing Eurozone members, with the largest contribution coming from the City of London. I'm sure I don't have to remind readers, that the UK does not operate in the Eurozone. The proposition is typical of socialist accounting, robbing Peter to pay Paul.
However, these little sideshows could be blown apart by what will happen at the polls in France and Greece this weekend; should, as expected, Francois Hollande succeed Sarkozy as France's new President, promising all kinds of economic mayhem, with the usual socialist nonsense of spending money that does not exist. This is a 'no win' situation, should he go ahead, the nation goes bust. Alternatively, in not living up to his promises, one can only envisage strikes. As for the Greek situation, heaven only knows. It's suggested that the far right is gaining support, as with much of Europe.
France nevertheless holds the key. Hollande, a socialist nonentity, who is the father of four children from his former relationship with Segolene Royal, Sarkozy's challenger in the last presidential elections. How? one might ask, does he, Hollande, become the socialist candidate following the political demise of the front runner, the alleged priapic, Dominique Strauss-Kahn. Strauss-Kahn, former head of the International Monetary Fund. Could he have pursued the same policy, having spent years advocating economic common sense?
NEXT WEEK COULD BE A LITTLE DIFFERENT.

AN ANOMOLY OF THE DEMOCRATIC VOTE.
Although Francois Hollande, the socialist, remains favourite to become the new President of the French Republic, is there an undercurrent of votes moving to the right? The National Front contender, Marine Le Pen, having increased her vote considerably, can only indicate the disquiet in certain quarters regarding the European Union, which, as we know, encourages immigration. This has been the best turnout ever for her party.
If we then look at what has happened in a non EU European nation, Norway, where, last year, a bloody massacre took place killing dozens of young folk; in reading about the trial, the slayings were unashamedly committed as a reaction against immigration. We are not saying here, that the French are about to go down such a route. The trend, however, is well and truly established.
What, therefore, is the weakness in the system? In France and very much so in the UK, traditionalists are scared to switch from their normal support, even though their party of normal preference can totally disregard what is promised and required. Naturally, part of the electorate chances its arm, in the case of Britain, UKIP will do better in coming elections by taking votes from the Tory Party. UKIP is really now the Conservative Party. Cameron, who is no more than a 'blue rinse' socialist, will find this out to his considerable chagrin.
We have said in these columns previously, that in the UK, parties will have to do some tricky 'smoke and mirrors' manoeuvring, pretending to offer a vote on Europe. They all might promise this, probably to renege on gaining power. The one party, however, that uses this policy as it's central plank, is UKIP. This is why the party was formed.

THE BORROWERS, EU STYLE.
The difference between the original film and the European version, is that the Director keeps shouting "cut" before the film-making gets under way. This is explained in simple terms, due to the fact that there are no funds with which to proceed in the production.
Greece, Portugal and Ireland are bust, with Spain and Italy on the cusp of liquidation', plus a 'tricky' France on the brink. That is just the Eurozone; there is more. We have, in these columns previously, referred to Martin Durkin's TV documentary in 2010, following the disastrous Labour years; taking a close look at the British National Debt, which now, in 2012, is probably close to £5 trillion. Mitchell Feierstein, CEO of the Glacier Fund, appears to concur with this appraisal. Check him on your search engine. You will note that Feierstein points out, that the UK Government can't bring itself to confront the problem. In a recent posting on our sister blog; http://polly-tickle.blogspot.com , we suggested, that in failing to announce this information on coming to power, said the problem will return to haunt them; a fact that will allow the ultra gormless opposition to goad them. As W.C Fields would have said: "Never give a sucker an even break".
Neither would it be good for the US of A to be smug about the dire economic concerns of the Western World. Read Mark Steyn's tome, "After America, get ready for Armageddon". To dispel his views would be folly.

COMPARATIVE RULINGS.
Very little is happening within the European Union, that is, apart from going bust, and the imminent French Presidential Elections. The current incumbent has had two recent opportunities to recover some ground in the polls, having been trailing by a considerable margin. The first incident was the tragic killing of a Rabbi and his children outside their school; the other was a more palatable gift from heaven for President Sarkozy, two immigrants found, by a court ruling, to be hostile to the Republique. They were deported immediately.
Let us now consider such a situation on the British side of the English Channel, and there are numerous ones. The difference in our dim democracy, we appear to want to keep the ranks that make up the Law Society in business, 'big business', dotting every 'i' and crossing every 't' of the European Human Rights Legislation. This incidentally is all done at the expense of taxpayer GB. This came about under the auspices of the last Labour Government, during Tony Blair's time as Prime Minister. This would no doubt have been done on behalf of Cherie Blair, his wife, a practising Barrister and Junior Judge; knowing full well that this would prove to be a 'nice little earner'. You can't beat milking the public, an art form adopted regularly by 'champagne socialists'. We, therefore, keep thousands of these foreign recalcitrants, who appeal regularly against any conviction, keeping our law operatives in a comfort zone, paid for by the general public.

IT'S ALL GONE QUIET OVER THERE.
Whenever there is a lull in directives coming out of the over-populated and bureaucratic shambles that is the European Commission in Brussels, we can only assume that something ludicrously infantile is about to emerge.
There were hushed reports of both the Italian and Spanish economies imploding a few days ago; this will undoubtedly lead to some form of rescue act. It is, however, confusing as to how this can come about, when most of the funds within the EU have already been decimated; how can a rescue package be brought about from a 'black hole' of debt?
The only other murmurings of the last few days were uttered by that doyen of limited knowledge, Baroness Ashton; this is a person who makes the clear thinking Brit totally embarrassed. Her comments were along the lines of comparisons with the murders in Toulouse of a Rabbi and his children, and Israel inflicting casualties on the population of Gaza, in retaliation for the targeting of rockets on innocent people. How do these dumb folk survive?
AN EU DEATH RATTLE WOULD BE MORE ACCEPTABLE.

A WORTHWHILE DEFECTION.
Having met the former conservative MEP Roger Helmer, and followed his activities in Brussels, I can thoroughly understand his defection to the UKIP Party. UKIP is the only British party in the European Parliament who speak up for the British public. How both the current and recent UK Governments can hold their heads high is completely astounding.
What is the Coalition expecting to gain from the mayhem which surrounds the Eurozone? Meanwhile in Westminster, they have little better to occupy their minds, other than justify same sex marriages, along with anything else concerned with diversity. Sideshows are not proper politics, we have to pursue things that make money, rather than fanciful items which only abhor the normal core conservative voter.
So Roger, the floor is yours. We have to get some conservative attitudes to the fore over there on the mainland. I shall watch with interest. You have certainly joined a party whose leader, Nigel Farage, leads from the front.
MAKE IT STICK.

THE GREEK IMPOSITION.
The British Prime Minister, David Cameron, has the temerity to tell us that the Greeks have endorsed the proposed £110 billion bailout. The author thinks not. The Greeks have had a decision imposed upon them by Brussels, which is a totally different animal. The clear thinkers know that this will not survive, and that Greece will have to exit the Eurozone.
Cameron went on to expand on 'firewalls' for the other dodgy economies in the zone. Could we enquire, whatever happened to the free market sorting these problems out? Which would mean that the weaker economies would have to revert to their old currencies. There is nothing wrong in doing this now, as it will cost much more by pushing them further down the road.
CAMERON, TRY KEEPING YOUR NOSE OUT OF EUROZONE DISASTERS.

GREEK FARCE TURNS TO TRAGEDY.
Most people with only a limited knowledge of history will be aware that Greece was the original seat of democracy. Similarly, the same folk are also aware of the cause of the financial upheaval that has been simmering for some years in the nation's economy. This was, undoubtedly, hastened by the flippant way Greece has been running it's state sector, certainly since it's inclusion in the Eurozone. Much damage can happen in ten years. This was a prime example of why they should not have been allowed to join the currency. Brussels's vanity, however, was not about to be derailed by a simple matter of whether or not Greece could cope. The more the merrier was the cry, a 'bums on seats syndrome'. And what do you get when a bunch of economic neophytes get excited about such a theory? Disaster!!!
What is becoming obvious, in reading comments by more reliable economists, the real reason for the insistence by Germany to keep the Euro intact throughout the original member nations is that they know that if Greece bows out, then more nations will follow. The consequence of this will be the damage done to the German Motor Industry, as the countries that leave will have to devalue, leaving less money to lavish on fancy motors. This is what frightens Angela Merkel.
Nevertheless, no matter how much money is thrown into a rescue package, Greece will have to leave sooner or later.
NOW LET'S SEE, HOW DO WE SPELL D-E-M-O-C-R-A-C-Y?

IT'S BEGINNING TO STINK OVER THERE.
You can be in our gang if you are good Europeans, agreeing with everything we say. Don't however do everything that we do, such as support each other in our domestic elections, as this might well be deemed undemocratic to the more mature nations of Europe.
The morphing of Anglas Merkozy has now hit the hustings in France, electioneering for the approaching Presidential Elections. This could, on the one hand, find support in the transvestite community; somehow, that is unlikely to sway the nation. We, in Britain, really have to put our heads above the parapet, admonishing such practices, pretending, like the 'Three Musketeers', that we are 'all for one and one for all', a kind of palindrome. This is probably the way that the Franco-German leadership sees as the future for Europe; we are the same from whatever angle we are viewed. This would fall into a kind of 'smoke and mirrors' category.
As with the theme in our sister blog, accessible via http://polly-tickle.blogspot.com, you will note that all politicians practice sleight of hand wheezes, with the pretence of doing us good. Europe, of course, is different, insomuch that we don't get a vote to remove the Brussels' law makers, and Merkozy would like this status quo to remain in situ. Not that a change of parties in France would alter that either; in fact we would be on the receiving end of a more condensed Marxism.
In reality, we would probably prefer far less politics, with a ban on electioneering, and contestants standing alone on their records.
BUT THE MELODY LINGERS ON.

BACKSLIDING BEGIN.
'It only takes a moment' according to songwriter Jerry Herman. After showing some leadership regarding The UK's relationship with the the European Union, David Cameron was almost bound to succumb to parts of the objection he mounted, regarding greater integration to support the lost cause that is the Euro. He has evidently agreed to allow some of the institutions to take control, where necessary, in the budgetary reforms of the nations that are in financial 'dire straits'.
This might appear to be an efficient method of controlling the disorganised members of the Eurozone, but it is also intrusive and non-democratic. There are also aspects that would leave Britain on the outside. This could be advantageous for those of us who wish to leave the EU; letting the bossy Anglas Merkozy push the others around. We must, however, sooner or later, be asked if we want to remain within this appalling, dictatorial relationship, which can only cause tensions eventually.
Meanwhile, on the other hand, we have the dim 'Thoroughly Modern Miliband', who we wouldn't trust to help his brother cross the road, making a meal of Cameron's change of course. The Prime Minister has got to avoid these 'banana skins', ensuring that such opportunities do not arise. We are well aware that 'Thoroughly Modern' would sell us up the river regarding the EU. So I'll repeat the WC Fields maxim: 'Never give a sucker an even break'.
THE LESSON IS: BE TOTALLY CONSISTENT.

DAVID CAMERON FLEXES HIS MUSCLES AGAIN.
It could be a mirage, but the British Prime Minister is suddenly saying a number of right things regarding the Eurozone disaster. The situation over there has certainly gone a little quiet; it is impossible to get rid of the Greek problem without creating a further problem elsewhere. Greece is way beyond redemption as a member of the 'Toytown' currency, the Euro. If it were that easy to haul one's economy out of the enormous 'black hole' that is their economy, everyone would be at it. Tinkering, as pointed out by Cameron in his speech in Davos, is no panacea; decisive savings must be found. The clowns in Brussels seem to think that inventing new taxes is the answer. That is about the depth of a socialist's thinking.
If the PM is sincere about his current crusade, all well and good. The fact that his unpopularity with the dim officialdom on the other side of the Channel augurs well for his increased popularity at home. He has, however, only shifted up to second gear, with at least three more to engage.
DON'T STOP NOW.

THE BRAINWASHING OF A GENERATION.
The author's interest in history, particularly that of the 20th century, reminds me of the situation in the Ukraine between 1942/44. As the different regimes passed through, Nazi and Communist; the history books were rewritten to include the propaganda to suit the politics of either party.
Let us understand, therefore, what is happening under the unelected cabal that runs the European Union in Brussels. Their hopes and wishes are presented to children, with a view to coercing them into believing in the Marxist doctrine; bureaucratic central control, rather like unions; giving high paid jobs to the brothers and sisters who are fellow travellers. A system which has been going on in the UK since the end of the second world war.
It should be self-eviden, that reading the political history of the twentieth century is the subject to be included in every schools curriculum. It's frightening how the world keeps ignoring the facts.
WE ONLY HAVE OURSELVES TO BLAME.

M&S IN MORE BACKROOM TALKS.
This isn't the British shopping chain we're talking about i.e Marks & Spencer, but the furtive Merkel and Sarkozy. Their latest scam will have to be the last in this series; the world will not believe another pack of lies following the abject failure of all the previous attempts to buck the market. The economies of both Greece and Italy continue in free fall. This side of the English Channel we can feel the 'death rattle' of the Euro.
"Hands up all who wish to subscribe to the 'save the Euro' fund". Poor Sarkozy has got to perform some extra special political contortions before France's forthcoming Presidential Election in the spring. The problem is, that this is far too important an issue to bend the truth for political gain, but it happens all the time, due to expediency.
The Americans are making their annoyance very obvious, as Obama is into to his election year, and yes, it does no harm to be putting the blame elsewhere. Nobody, however, is taking the blame, which collectively is that of the total western world. There are some rather intelligent folk around who have been pointing out for sometime, that the credit crunch proper has still to come.
LET US HOPE THAT WE CAN HANDLE IT.

2012, A YEAR OF FOREBODING.
It would be easy to accept that France is the driving force behind the blind obsession with the failed currency, the Euro; they think that it creates a common bond, and therefore a closer relationship between member nations. Unfortunately, this is so obviously not the case. Alternatively, Germany thinks that it can assume ultimate power because of a superior economic position. But is that what is really behind the German case? Perhaps it's intransigence in both cases.
One of the author's Christmas presents is a book explaining the German Psyche during the final year of WWII: 'The End', written by Ian Kershaw (Sir), a specialist in the field of Adolph Hitler. From the introductory chapter, it becomes clear, apart from the core of ingrained Nazis, that the people in general were determined to fight on, possibly based mainly on pride, although Russian reprisals were also a major consideration; plus the regime's propaganda, poisoning the remaining population with Goebbel's verbal bile. The fact, however, was that they could not see the logic in coming to terms with the West; accepting the fact that Roosevelt would insist on nothing less than unconditional surrender. Nevertheless, fighting a losing war on one's own territory was an act of imbecility.
The question that is being asked here is, is it the Germans who cannot see the folly of the Euro, certainly in it's current form? Western economies will not survive, unless, like liquid, they find their own level. Something that can only happen by allowing the weaker, under-performing nations within the Eurozone to break away. Of course this will cause mayhem; the alternative, however, could be much worse.
IT'S DECISION TIME.
